Welcome to Part 3 of my adventure at Comic Con International 2011. One imagine I forgot to include in previous post, was from the area just across the street from the San Diego Convention Center, where the show took place. I was able to walk into the San Diego Padres ballpark, during my lunch break. It's a beautiful park, with fun seats in the outfield.
See the sand sculpture in there? What a great view of the game...

Just a bit more Star Wars. One company makes incredibly details statues/figures of movie/comic book/TV characters. The artistry involved is astonishing. While some people would dismiss a 5-foot tall statue of Obi Wan Kenobi, I can compare this easily to some very famous sculptors, in terms of the quality:
I found this statuette amazing. It's a character called "Angel" from the X-Men. I thought the detail and expression of movement was amazing:
Comic Con is full of celebrities. Most of them appeal at the panel discussions. However, many of them end up on the show floor, or at various events connected to the show. I saw quite a few - but only have pictures of a couple famous folks. Security managed to stop my progress to allow a couple of celebrities to walk across the show floor (Rob Lowe, Jon Heder, Jon Favareau). I caught Sam Worthington (Avatar) signing autographs:
The guy that is most well-known for comics is Stan Lee. He helped to create Spiderman, Iron Man, Hulk and many others:
Here is the cast of the HBO show True Blood, all signing autographs - this group is VERY popular with the Comic Con crowd. It's a good thing that I'm tall enough to take pictures over the crowd:
At the Omni Hotel, they were holding some screenings of films. As I was passing through, Kate Beckinsdale was rushed by security into the lobby...
Swords from lots of different movies and shows
This booth was amazing - hundreds of different shirts
Back at the show, I took a few more random pictures. Not much of a theme here, other than an effort to show you some of the craziness that takes place here. First, I'll share some images of the various costumes that you'll find. These are just the folks that I had my camera ready for - there were hundreds of others. First, an example of the old adage: "There's a Jack for every Jill" or a testament to the strength of shared interests to bring a couple together:
These Disney Princesses came to the AMD Booth - I don't think they had their other friends with them:

You can't turn around without some reminder of the Star Wars universe:

A friend grabbed this image - I was really impressed with the costumes...to the point that they may have been hired by Disney:

While on the hunt for action figures, I found a couple of unusual ones:
...and just to be fair...
I'm sure some father would love to receive this gift for Father's Day - a Star Trek robe - I just wouldn't be one of them.
If this had only been in pink, I may have grabbed this onesie for Baby L. Although that would only be for my entertainment alone...
They also had one of the original DeLorean time machines from Back To The Future on display:
At Hasbro's booth, they had a HUGE collection of all the special Cars 2 Hot Wheels on display. I know G-Man would have gone nuts at this booth:
Outside the Convention Center, there was a giant display for the new Total Recall movie, starring Collin Ferrell
Back at the Lego booth, they had these amazing displays from a variety of movies. This one came from Harry Potter - Hogwarts, Hogsmeade and the Hogwarts Express:
The Lego folks set-up this massive play area, right inside their booth. It looked like a ton of fun:

I found this unique booth - a company that was selling "Christian" comic books. I'm glad to see that they can perhaps reach a younger audience with Bible stories. I'm still trying to get my hands on a copy of the Book of Mormon comics that were published a few years ago

How can she even walk in those heels??
Back on the show floor, there was lots of interesting merchandise to be found. Here are some fun little characters:

I found the following booth really interesting. Basically, it's a series of paintings and drawing from professional artists that are inspired by Disney, Star Wars, etc. The artwork is fantastic - I just didn't like the prices for the original work:
I leave you with one last image. I wasn't too surprised to learn that there is an online dating service, aimed directly at the Comic Con audience. It's called SoulGeek.com:
Well, my friends, this is it for now. I think I've uploaded everything I can for now. It's time to go home and rest up from this exhausting experience. I'm certainly lucky to have a job that takes me to unique experiences like this ; )
