E3 - Los Angeles, CA - Part 2

Note:  This is the second post about the E3 Show in Los Angeles, CA (you can see part 1 here).

Welcome back.  Just to make sure you understand - I actually do work at these shows.  For example, today I had back-to-back meetings with game developers and publishers for over 7 hours.  I took a break for lunch, and snapped some additional pictures/movies.  I just want to be absolutely clear ; )

Disney Interactive, the division of Disney that makes games, had an incredible booth.  They created a miniature theme park, showcasing some interesting new games.  First up, is a game called "Disney Universe":

In this adventure game, you character gets to dress up as one of 40 different Disney characters, and you play in the settings of different Disney movies like Lion King (pictured above), Tron, Alice in Wonderland, etc.  The animation is great, and earning the different costumes is fun.  Here's a quick video of the game in-action:

Next, is a game for the Xbox Kinect (where you control the system with your entire body), called "Disneyland Adventures". In this game, you can walk around a virtual Disneyland, meet and take pictures with characters, and even hop on a ride. For example, players can ride the classic Disneyland attraction “Peter Pan’s Flight,” where they can fly through the streets of London and off to Neverland.  Here's a video clip of two people playing in the Alice in Wonderland area:

One of the fun things about Disney's booth, was the fact that they brought in a team of sketch artists from the animation studio, to create hand-drawn pictures of your favorite Disney character, while you watched them.  Here's a quick clip of my drawing:

Moving on to more mature games, here's a little statue from an upcoming M-rated title called "Gears of War 3".  This is going to be a very popular game for Xbox 360 this Christmas:

Trust me, your teen-ager will know what this is all about...

Nintendo made a big announcement at the show.  They introduced the brand-new Wii U, the follow-up to their successful Wii.  The Wii U is unique - it has a controller that looks a little like an iPad - it has its own 6" LCD screen.  I had the opportunity to get a sneak-peek at it with some Nintendo executives.  They asked me not to take close-up pictures, but here's what it looks like:

Next year, your children will be asking you for one of these.  Our company supplies the graphics hardware for this system, so we're hoping that it sells well ; )  So far, we haven't seen any games, but that will happen over the next 9 months.  To understand the excitement for this announcement, you need to see this video.  It's the line for people to be able to see the Wii U.  At the point of this video, the line was already about 300 yards long.  They opened the doors to the show, and the crowds came running in to add to the colossal line:

I was feeling nostalgic about my time at Sega, so I took a quick picture of their booth:

The boys and girls at Ubisoft have come up with another Raving Rabbids game.  This time, it uses the Xbox Kinect to take care of those pesky rabbits:

The size of the displays in some of these booths are incredible.  It's hard to describe...so I won't.  Check out this GIANT screen at the Square-Enix booth:

One of the biggest games that will arrive this November, is the new "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3".  This game has generated over $1 billion in sales - it's a juggernaut.  Here's a look at the Activision booth, the publishers of this game:

The other big publisher in this industry is EA.  They make some of the most-popular sports games.  Here is a video from their giant booth display:

This is also a clip from the EA booth.  This is for a game called "Battlefield 3".  It's another blockbuster title that will go head-to-head with the Call of Duty game, as a military shooter:

To finish this post off - I give you another peek at Just Dance 3.  This time, 4 people can dance at the same time.  I think this will be part of our Dessert Party this year ; )
