We kick-off this post with our big New Year's Eve party. Last year, we began a tradition that we've continued this year. We gather food from all over the world, for a unique culinary adventure. In Austin, this was pretty easy. We didn't have too much trouble in Utah Valley, either. We grabbed beef bulgogi from Sam Hawk's Korean restaurant and chicken tikka masala and shrimp korma from Provo's Bombay House. We added Chinese pot stickers, Mexican tacquitos and Italian risotto. Needless to say, it was crazy...but delicious.
We also found a great activity for kids on New Year's Eve. Each hour (or half hour, as needed) the kids popped a balloon with a message inside:
Each message had a game or activity for the kids. This included a "dance party", calling cousins to wish them a Happy New Year, or a silly string fight:
But you should have seen the other guy...
The kids really got into it. We managed to have my folks and my wife's folks there for some of the activities. I really love having both sides of the family in one place. My son was able to convince my Dad to get off the couch and join in the dance party ; )
Who two thumbs and wishes you a Happy 2012?? This guy...
