The next several posts will be all about our recent family vacation on a Disney Cruise to the Caribbean. The previous post can be found HERE.
Day 4 of the cruise found us arriving at Tortola, which is part of the British Virgin Islands. It was a gorgeous place, as you might expect. This was the view as we came off the ship...
We had something special planned for the kids on this day. We took them out to the Dolphin Discovery center, located on an inlet of the island. There, the kids had a chance to interact with a dolphin, and learn so much more about these amazing creatures. We were nervous that L wouldn't want to get near them...but were proved wrong, as she was super excited to get in the water with them. I present a series of pictures from our experience. What an incredible day. The weather was fantastic and we then returned to the ship. I decided that I wanted to have a little more fun. I wanted to go rent a scooter and drive around the island. G-Man was willing to go with me. We went back out to the port:
Unfortunately, we waited a little too long. The shops that rented these were closing up. It was just too close to the time that the ships would depart the island. Oh, well...
That evening was "Pirate Night" on the ship. This is a big Disney tradition. Everyone is encouraged to dress like a pirate...and the kids loved that we joined in the fun. With my eye not working well (more in another post later), I grabbed some special sunglasses that actually fit into the theme well. My wife did a great job of preparing costumes for the kids. We had fun playing up the part:
All of the pirate-themed characters came out that night. Here's a peek at the interaction with Captain Hook. Peter Pan was down on the ground floor. In the video, you can hear Peter calling Hook a "codfish":
The kids wanted to go to another dance party...and it was another fun experience that they had together:
Dinner was back at the Royal Court restaurant, and the waiters would move with us to the different restaurants. All of the menu items were pirate-themed.

That night saw a HUGE pirate party on the top deck. The show was pretty good, with all of the Disney characters participating in a story about Hook taking over the ship.
The night finished with a fireworks show at sea. We managed to find a quiet place near the back of the ship...and just enjoyed an amazing light display overhead.
It was really late when we turned in - the kids were definitely tired. We found this awesome pirate monkey waiting for us...with chocolate gold coins in his mouth:
Overall, another fantastic day on the island of Tortola. The next stop? St. Thomas - one of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
