One last parting thought from Shanghai, China....
Tonight, I was walking back from dinner and I was greeted by my friendly, neighborhood DVD peddler. Counterfeit DVDs are plentiful here in China, for sure. Can you say "intellectual property violation"? Anyway, I decided to take a closer look. It was a copy of a movie that was just released a few weeks ago - The Love Guru. It cost me a whopping 70 cents. The package was intriguing:
First, this wasn't a Blu-Ray disc by any stretch of the imagination. That's just the packaging that they were able to steal. The disc itself is a regular DVD...but in the classic tradition of NY sidewalk vendors, it's a copy of the movie that was made by someone taking a video camera into the movie theater. You can hear people laughing and everything....go piracy!
